A Note from Doug SleeterOur seminars are off to a great start! I enjoyed getting the chance to visit with some of you at the recent seminars. I'll be at the Sacramento seminar on June 30th. Scrip is a topic that generates a lot of questions, in terms of properly setting up and tracking its usage and I've written a detailed explanation of this for you. This exists as a PDF so you can download it and print it out. As always, please forward this newsletter to others you think may find it useful! |
Handling Scrip (PDF)Scrip is a simple fundraising concept that allows not-for-profit organizations such as schools or churches to purchase gift certificates, or scrip, from merchants at a discount. Merchants are happy to give the discounted scrip because it guarantees they will have customers in addition to some goodwill advertising. Parents then buy the gift certificates from the school at face value. The difference in price is kept by the school. Parents then spend the scrip at the merchant, where it’s worth the full face value; they haven’t spent any of their own money to help the school, nor have they had to change stores. There are several different types of scrip, and several different ways scrip is treated in organizations. This article suggests some basic setup procedures as well as specific instructions for handling several types of scrip transactions. Download the PDF... |
