QuickBooks 2003, released in December 2002 is an upgrade to the market-leading accounting software product. Targeted at businesses with fewer than 50 employees and less than $10 million in revenues, QuickBooks continues to be the hands down favorite of small business owners across nearly every industry.

New Editions of QuickBooks
This article focuses primarily on the new features available in QuickBooks Basic, Pro and Premier, not on the industry specific editions of QuickBooks mentioned below. However, we thought it important to mention some of the new products that are currently available and to encourage you to research the capabilities of these products and their applicability to each business.

Industry Specific Editions of QuickBooks
Intuit has recently adopted a strategy called “Right for My Business.” This strategy represents an ongoing effort to meet the needs of specific industries or “verticals.” This past year QuickBooks developed three new editions of their Premier product targeted to verticals: QuickBooks Premier: Accountant Edition, QuickBooks Premier: Contractor Edition, and QuickBooks Premier: Non-Profit Edition (temporary release). As part of the “Right for My Business” strategy, Intuit also acquired three vertical solutions during the past year: MasterBuilder (for the construction industry), Fundware (for Non-Profit Organizations), and QuickBooks Point of Sale (for retailers).
