December 2006
 A Message from Doug Sleeter

Doug SleeterHope you have all been enjoying the holidays. This is our final newsletter of 2006 and it has been a great year at The Sleeter Group. Our network of QuickBooks Consultants has grown to over 400 members, our annual QuickBooks conference was the largest and best ever, we have built many strong relationships with software developers, and we continue our excellent relationship with the team at Intuit.

In this month’s newsletter, Bonnie Nagayama, CPA,  has provided us with some great tricks for how contractors can handle handle two-party checks. Bonnie and I have been working together for over ten years, and it’s great to have her contribute some of her great ideas for our group.

We also have three product reviews for you; Using online Accounting with InsynQ’s e-accounting, MultiCHAX check printing, and an article on sharing information between Act! and QuickBooks.  All three of these software add-on products were showcased at our annual conference this year.

We wish you all a happy and prosperous 2007!

 Handling Two Party Checks

In the construction industry, the bookkeeper will occasionally have to handle receiving a “two-party check.” A two-party check is payable to two companies, usually the prime contractor and a materials supplier, or other subcontractor.

The reason is most often to ensure that the supplier is paid in a timely manner and that there is a direct link between the payment from the job and the payment to the supplier.

The article, written by Bonnie Nagayama, CPA, is our suggestion for how to handle two-party checks.

The Sleeter Group's 2006 QuickBooks Conference

The Sleeter GroupThanks to all of the attendees and exhibitors who helped make our November 2006 QuickBooks Conference such a success. We had 600+ QuickBooks Consultants, speakers and exhibitors participate this year.  The conference was held in Las Vegas, NV. With over 25 unique sessions, there were plenty of choices for attendees to select from.

Congratulations to our Conference Evaluation Raffle winner: Nancy Engst of Oregon. Nancy won a one year membership in The Sleeter Group Consultants Network by simply turning in her conference survey.
And speaking of the conference survey… survey results rated the overall Conference at 4.67 on a scale of 1 to 5!

Thanks to our fantastic speaking team; including 24 of the country’s most talented accounting software experts and industry leaders. Congratulations to the top rated three speakers; Randy Johnston of K2 Enterprises, Nancy Lee of Intuit Inc., and Anna Sheets, CPA, of Accounting Made Simple.

We are researching locations for our 2007 QuickBooks Conference and plan to announce the date and location in mid January. Stay tuned!

Sharing Information Between ACT! and QuickBooks

ACT! Link for QuickBooks ACT! Software tracks interactions, transactions, schedules and tasks. It is used by business owners, sales professionals, real estate agents, bankers, financial planners, brokers, and manufacturing reps to track client information. ACT! Link for use with QuickBooks bridges the QuickBooks accounting information to matching customers, contacts, and vendors within ACT!.

When using ACT! Link, ACT! can display QuickBooks information including Invoices, Estimates, Credits, Receivables, Sales Summary, Payments, Purchase Orders, Bills, Account Balance, Past Dues, Aging and more.

ACT! Link for use with QuickBooks can be either a bi-directional or single directional conduit for moving and exchanging customer data with QuickBooks to help minimize double data entry and keep both applications up to date.

 Online Accounting through InsynQ's e-Accounting

www.cpaasp.com - Insynqe-Accounting has been offering QuickBooks and other application hosting services for almost 10 years. As one of the first providers of the “online accounting” model, InsynQ e-Accounting offers a broad range of experience and expertise in their service and delivery that you won’t find with all hosting service providers.

Using an application service provider (ASP), you no longer need to have a file server in your office and you don’t have to install applications on all your workstations. The ASP service eliminates the worry and expense of building and maintaining a business network.

For a monthly subscription fee you have a fully-managed service which includes virus protection and backing up your data. You can login to the system while at a client’s office, from your office, from home… from anywhere you have Internet access.

 MultiCHAX Check Printing

Have you ever had the experience of printing checks on forms for the incorrect bank account? Even if you haven’t been through this personally, it has probably crossed your mind how embarrassing and possibly disastrous this could be. Maintaining more than one checking account means that you need to stock and then change check forms for each of the accounts.

MultiCHAX® software system, created by CHAX, Inc. offers a unique check printing solution which closely integrates with all versions of QuickBooks. MultiCHAX prints checks, including the MICR codes, onto blank check forms from within QuickBooks in a single step.
