| 10 Tips for using QuickBooks Point-of-Sale | ||
QuickBooks Point of Sale (QBPOS) fills the gap for retailers who are looking for an integrated solution for their cash register to interface with their financial reporting system. Using a standard cash register does not enable retailers to have an inventory management system. It is simply a tool of recording sales. So what happens to the other functions? Some will use QuickBooks Financial System (QBFS) functionality to track purchase orders, receipt of inventory, sales, etc. However, if their cash register does not interface with QBFS then someone will have to manually reenter sales data so that inventory is accurate. Sounds time consuming and a waste of valuable time, right? It is! So how much is your time worth? Priceless!

| Converting Data Files to and from Macintosh and Windows | ||
If you work with clients who use QuickBooks on the Macintosh, you may need to transfer their data file back and forth between Mac and Windows.
In 2006, there are new features to make this easier and we've added a new section to the Consultant's Reference Guide that covers this in depth. Here is that section of the Reference Guide.
| Tricks of the Trade | ||
Every day, members of The Sleeter Group's Consultants Network tackle the day-to-day problems of their clients in the real world. The following are some of the more general problems and solutions that surfaced this month on our "Sleeter Group's Consultants Network Forum".
Data File Size Recommendations
Douglas Sleeter informs us:
"In general, The Sleeter Group recommends keeping data file sizes to within the following limits. For Simple Start, Pro and Premier editions (through QuickBooks 2006), keeping the file size to 100MB or less. For Enterprise Solutions, the file should not be much larger than 250 MB. As the data file grows, the overall performance of the software declines, and the risk of data corruption increases.
I had expected to increase my recommendation to at least 200mb (for non-enterprise), but we found relatively poor performance compared with what we had expected."
