Inside this Issue
Our big news this month is the announcement of our partnership with MISys SBM. MISys is a great fit for small- to medium-sized companies who need real MRP capabilities fully integrated with the strong accounting of QuickBooks. We currently have great solutions which add to the QuickBooks inventory management functionality, and with MISys we now have a complete small business manufacturing system to offer. Read the press release. June is a month of travel for me and perhaps for many of you. I recently returned from the AICPA TECH show in Las Vegas where I saw the introduction of Bill.com and the announcement of an alliance between Bill.com and CPA2Biz to provide online accounts payable services to accountants and their clients. Check out Bill.com if you haven’t already. The Sleeter Group is a new client of Bill.com and it has saved us a ton of time in our A/P department. I also attended the California Business and Accounting Show in Los Angeles. That show was attended by a couple thousand accountants, as well as 100 or so vendors with great technologies. Every year, the CPA Technology Advisor Magazine uses the show as the forum for the Technology Innovation Awards. As we’re preparing for our conference in November, I’m spending lots of time researching the top products that will dazzle you and improve your life in the coming months and years. For example, if you haven’t heard about it yet, check out SmartVault.com. It’s an online document management system that stores images of vendor bills and associates them with transactions in QuickBooks. In addition to document imaging, it’s a "vault" for online backups of your QuickBooks data files and a secure sharing portal for your company documents. This week I am headed to the Intuit Accounting Professional User Conference in Orlando. Hope to see you there!

Our friends at Sage Software asked us to assist with the announcement of the launch of a great opportunity for a select few business owners: The Peachtree Family Owned and Operated Initiative. This outreach program is designed to help qualifying small businesses succeed in our challenging economic environment. It is tough for small businesses, especially family-owned and operated ones, with rising fuel costs, a credit crisis and the housing slump. It is critical in times like these that businesses manage their finances and cash flow carefully – and a great way to do that is by using Peachtree Accounting. Sage Software is there to help by providing free small business accounting software to qualifying family owned businesses.

Question: I have a prospective client who is opening a beauty salon with typical products sales. They will cater to a high-end crowd. Is anyone aware of either an add-on or stand-alone software program that brings together appointment scheduling, retail inventory, sales, etc. Marilyn Sudbeck, CPA responded: QuickBooks Point of Sale would work very well except for the appointment part. Kara R. Haas, CPA added: Leprechaun does not integrate with QuickBooks, but, it is a good solution for scheduling, retail, etc. You can find out more at http://www.leprechaun-software.com/pricing/. I have a few salons on QuickBooks Point of Sale and it works very well. One more option for scheduling is www.scheduleview.com. Jeanne Miller Tarazevits, CPA, CITP chimed in: I took the demo for Millennium POS which integrates with QuickBooks this morning. It actually does integrate. One the upside, it does the scheduling, emailing etc. and it’s cheap. The downside is they only push sales receipts to QB. They use QB PO’s and Bills for Inventory. They have all sorts of client CRM and commission calc’s. I am going to check out the scheduler add-on for POS that was mentioned in a previous post. Joan Komaromi weighed in: I just obtained a new client who is using the Millennium software. It is great for scheduling but their QuickBooks financials needs some work. The InSync portion isn’t bringing in everything correctly. They are supposed to have an upgrade coming out this summer that will address this problem. Jeanne Tarazevits came back with: Our Beauty Salon thread was interesting and several of you recommended Millennium. As I now know, there are two Salon Software products named Millennium, one by Harns and one by Mill Resources. They are very different products with very different price points. Greetings,
As QuickBooks has become more widely used as a bookkeeping tool by small business owners, the concerns and issues raised by accounting professionals deserve some attention. The most common concern relates to the ability to change entries after they have been recorded. This issue is compounded for the accountant because there are no formal month (or year-end) closing procedures that must be followed.
