November 2009
 Message from Doug

We Doug Sleeterjust completed our annual Conference, and I want to thank our exhibitors, speakers, staff, and especially the hundreds of attendees. We wouldn’t be able to offer the quality networking and professional resources at our Conference without the vibrant community of consultants who attend and participate.

This year, we had 31 speakers who delivered the best content ever, and 50 exhibitors who give the Conference its cutting edge content. You all did a wonderful job.

And I have to thank our team here at The Sleeter Group, especially Sherrill Sleeter, who is the powerhouse and driving force behind the Conference. Casey, David, Deborah, Bonnie, Elizabeth, Erin, and Sheetal worked tirelessly to make sure our Conference ran smoothly. And Nathan held down the fort in Pleasanton while the rest of us were in Orlando.

If you missed the Conference this year, I have good news for you. You can purchase the recorded version! We’ve partnered with Digitell to provide recordings of most of the Conference sessions through an Online Conference Library. If you haven’t checked out this technology, you should take a look. We selected Leslie Shiner’s keynote as a sample session for you to view (see below). Digitell captured the presentations and computer demonstrations so that you have the full video experience of the sessions. You can read more about it below.

The entire team at The Sleeter Group wishes you a happy holiday season!

Chuck Vigeant's Reporting and Technology Corner

What is the IPP and how does it compare to the SDK?   And what is cloud computing anyway?

In this month’s column, Chuck Vigeant offers the second and final part on the IPP (Intuit Partner Platform) offering from Intuit. Last month, he reviewed the SDK offering – its weaknesses, strengths, and successes – and then delved into a quick primer on Cloud Computing. This month he explains the IPP offering, how developers can take advantage of it, and what it means to the Sleeter Group and Intuit consulting communities.

 Tricks of the Trade

Every day, members of The Sleeter Group Consultants Network tackle the day-to-day problems of their clients in the real world. The following is an example problem and solution that surfaced this month on our Sleeter Group Consultants Network E-Mail Group.

Question: Does anybody know how to filter a QuickBooks report for a range of Transaction Numbers? I want to isolate a sequentially entered series of Journal Entries into a single report. Thanks for any suggestions.

Stuart McClain replied: It would be nice if you could filter on all the fields – but QuickBooks just doesn’t include it – yet.

Steve Green responded: The best I can offer is to run a Transaction Detail by Account Report in the date range where you want. Then, add the Transaction Number column and filter for the Transaction Type Journal. Back at the report, you will be able to sort by Transaction Number – and I probably would just leave the Total by set to Total Only. Then you can export to Excel using the Advanced Tab option to turn on AutoFilter and you can filter on the transaction number in Excel. Hope that helps.

Ruth Perryman answered: How about filtering for Journal Entries only and then sorting by date?

Caren Schwartz added: Try a Missing Checks Report. Change the filter to All Accounts and Transaction Type to Journal. I think the number filter will then work.
