Non-Profits - Tracking Fundraising Income/Expense by Fundraiser

Summary

I have just started using QuickBooks. I am an independent bookkeeper for several non-profits. I am having some real problems trying to set up some of the specific reports I need for not-for-profit clients. How can I customize the reports more than QuickBooks allows? Specifically, I need to report for different fundraiser projects in the P&L Format for each fundraiser. If I can't get this one area worked out, it looks like I will have to abandon the QuickBooks software and buy higher up, which I hate to do because of the time invested in learning the new software, mostly (also the expense.) Can you suggest anything?

Answer

The best way to do this is to use classes to track each fundraiser. Every income and expense transaction should be tagged with the class (fundraiser name). You could use the P&L by Class Report to show all revenue and expense by Fundraiser (if you use the Class field for each fundraiser). To format the report exactly like you show above, you could export the report to Excel. In Excel, change the headings from Income and Expense to FUNDRAISER INCOME and FUNDRAISER EXPENSE. Also, if you want only one fundraiser at a time on this report, you could filter the P&L by Class report to only include one fundraiser at a time before exporting to Excel. You can memorize these reports so you don't have to go through all the filtering steps each time.
