We process several clients on QuickBooks pro 6.0 and 99. After receiving a version update from Intuit, I encountered a problem. Every time I exit 6.0 or 99 it tells me that there is an update waiting to be installed. I have installed this several times. Also, QuickBooks will not let me use payroll applications because a recent update to the tax table is waiting to be installed. Please help.

The fastest way to solve your problem is to uninstall both versions of QuickBooks. Use the Add/Remove Programs control panel to do this. Then, install version 6 from CD. Open the sample company file that QuickBooks installs in the QuickBooks program folder. Then, go to the QuickBooks Update Service from the online menu. This will download the latest release of version 6. Then, exit QuickBooks and it will ask you if you want to install the update. Say yes, and it will update your version 6 program. Then, install version 99 from CD. Make sure that you install the new version in a different directory from where you installed the earlier version. Open the sample company file that QuickBooks installs in the QuickBooks (99) folder. Then, go to the QuickBooks Update Service from the online menu. This will download the latest release of version 99.Then, exit QuickBooks and it will ask you if you want to install the update. Say yes, and it will update the version 99 program. If you also have QuickBooks 2000, you can install it next, making sure to install it in another new directory.
