Exporting Item List to ASCII File

Summary

We are currently using QuickBooks Pro Version 5, but are changing to a "Point of Sale" system. The first things we wanted to transfer are the Item lists. If I select Export and Item List, several file extensions present themselves. I would need all the data in the ASCI II format, which wasn't listed. Is there a way for me to transform the format of the data files the way they are in QuickBooks to ASCII?

Answer

To export the item list to an ASCII file: 1) Create an Item Listing report. Select the Reports menu, then List Reports, then Item, and then Item Listing. 2) Click the Print button at the top of the report. 3) On the Print Reports screen, click Print to: FILE. Notice it says “ASCII Text File”. 4) Click PRINT. 5) Enter a name and location (folder) for the file and click Save. You now have an ASCII text file that contains your item listing. If you want only the item names, customize the columns in QuickBooks before you print to disk.
