Converting from DOS QuickBooks

Summary

I have a question about a client that uses QuickBooks DOS ver 2.0. I am ready to update her to QuickBooks 99. Will I be able to automatically convert her data files or is there a interim process that I need to go through?

Answer

Converting from DOS QuickBooks to QB 99 is possible, but I usually set up a new file from scratch using the ending balances from the old file. The reason I don't convert is that DOS versions worked very differently and the data sometimes comes over with problems. Also, quite often I've found corrupt data in the DOS files that didn't show as corrupted when using the DOS version. Try it if you want, but I'm not too hopeful that it will work well.
