Creating Import (IIF) Files

Summary

I have a question regarding importing data from a CSV file from our current billing program. I can build an .iif file from my CSV file. It contains name (first and last - not separated) address, phone, client no., and balance due. What titles do I use for the top row and left hand column? My first attempt did not work well. I can send you a copy of the file if you'd like.

The documentation for creating import files is included in the help files in QuickBooks. In addition, you can find additional help and sample files on Intuit’s website. You can download samples iif files at the following address: http://www.intuit.com/support/quickbooks/faqs/docs/w_iiffiles.html To find the information, press F1 inside of QuickBooks, then press index and type "iif". All the documentation about iif files is right there. You can print it out, or view it online. However, be VERY careful when building IIF files. It’s very tricky and it’s a programmer-level task. In general we recommend against using iif files to import transaction data into QuickBooks. There are too many risks to your data.
