Using File Folders

What is it:

All registered users get a File Folder. They can add and delete files to this folder at anytime. As a user, you can also select a consultant to share your file with. By sharing with a consultant, they can download, add, and delete files in your folder.

How does it work:

In order to use File Folders, you must be registered and logged in. Once you have clicked "File Folder" from the website main menu, you should see a web page similar to Fig. 1 on the right.

1.) File Folder Contents
This section lists all of the files that are currently in your folder. From the picture, you can see that there is one file in this folder. To delete a file, you must add a check in the box next to the file name and then press "Delete Checked".

2.) File Upload
This is where you can upload a file. You should read the directions posted on the website as they may change with new features. To add a file, you click "Browse..." to find the file on your hard drive that you want to upload. You can then add any "Comments" that you might want someone else to see. And finally your must click the "Add File" button. Depending on the size of the file, your browser could appear to do nothing, but you will notice that the icon in the upper hand coner continues to spin as the file is being uploaded.

3.) File Sharing Permissions
This is the section that you would use to share your folder with one or more consultants. You can select the consultant(s) from the list box and click the "Add" button. Remember that once you add a consultant, they will receive and email each time you add a file. They will also be able to download, add, or delete files in your folder.

How to use it:

We recommend that you talk to your consultant and coordinate which file(s) he/she would like you to share. You can then give him/her access to your folder and upload the files. The consultant will the receive an email with a link to the file. They can then download it, modify it, and upload a new version with comments.

Problems/Issues:

Users that have slow connections (dial-up) could experience trouble transferring files larger than 8mb.
Currently files are also restricted in what characters they can have in their names. You should try and use only the regular alphabet if possible.
An error will occur if you try and upload a file with the same name as one already in your folder.
There is no progress indicator. You can watch the icon in the upper right-hand corner spinning as the file is uploading.

Since the ability to upload is built into your internet browser, we are very limited in ways to improve it. We are in the process of upgrading to a java component that will give us much more control. It should allow us to display a progress indicator and possibly resume a download if you are disconnected. You will hear more about it when we get ready to release it.

If you have any problems or feedback regarding this feature, please send email to our webmaster.
